My Professional Experience

I have two PGCE’s, (a British Postgraduate teaching qualification), one in Maths and one in Music, so I am qualified to teach both in schools.  I have taught Mathematics and Music in secondary schools for over 12 years, and have always tutored along side my teaching job. Now I Tutor Mathematics exclusively.

As you can imagine, with mathematics being such an important subject worldwide, there are a myriad of examinations that can be taken. Because of this, I have experience tutoring a variety of Maths Qualifications – a lot of these being the courses that are taught in UK and International Schools. I have tutored KS2, KS3, GCSE, iGCSE, A Level, Functional Skills and the Further Maths Qualifications from OCR and AQA. I have also taught Foundation Year Engineering Students and helped prepare adult learners for distance learning exams and professional entrance exams, for example QTS Skills Tests and Armed Forces Entrance Exams.

I also work closely with Apprenticeship providers and businesses to teach Engineering Maths and Functional Skills to City and Guilds Apprentices.

In terms of School Based teaching, I left on a high, having been a member of a Mathematics department belonging to an OFSTED Outstanding secondary school in the North of England. In my last year, we were ranked in the top 10% of Maths Departments in England. I am also an expert examiner for Pearson. This gives me a unique insight into the examination process, and in turn, a greater awareness of what needs to happen for exams to be successfully passed.

In previous schools I was Head of KS3 Mathematics and Head of Functional Mathematics. This involved visiting primary schools, designing and delivering practical and rich learning experiences. I have managed a school initiative that involved teaching parents in conjunction with students, and monitored pupil progress to ensure that those who were not performing their best were aware of what they needed to do to improve. I have also helped other teachers develop their careers as I have been a mentor to Trainee teachers and Newly Qualified Teachers. This involved watching their lessons and giving them feedback on what they could do to be even better.
